Make All New Food Things!

Make All New Food Things!

Last week, I was seriously jonesing to make some new recipes. And since my wife and I love to have “small plates” dinners every so often, I took the opportunity to jazz things up and make all new recipes for the meal, complete with a menu I printed up (because I’m a design geek like that). The menu for the evening included:

  • Raspberry Peach Sangria
  • Cheddar Bacon Ranch Spread
  • Garlic Smashed Potatoes with Sautéed Garlic Tomatoes
  • Grown-up Pigs in a Blanket (filled with BBQ pulled pork and cheese)
  • Zucchini Boats
  • Chocolate Tiramisu Truffles

Honeydew Smoothies

Honeydew Smoothies

Serves: 2

Time: 5 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

This morning for breakfast, I decided to make my wife and I some smoothies. And with a full honeydew melon on hand to utilize, I thought I’d try out a recipe I found on the Food Network website (with one small additional ingredient). I was admittedly nervous about the outcome, since honeydew is a pretty under-the-radar fruit, often just seen in fruit salads along with cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, etc. It’s rarely the “featured” fruit in anything, so even finding a recipe (at all) that featured it was no easy task. Regardless, both of us were surprised by how delicious these smoothies ended up being, and will gladly make more of them in the future. If you’re in the mood for a smoothie and have a few cups of honeydew melon at your disposal, I’d highly recommend you try this recipe. You’ll be glad you did!

Sweet Berry Mini Focaccia Sammies

Sweet Berry Mini Focaccia Sammies

Shortly after making the Savory Mini Focaccia Sammies, I was inspired to use the same mini focaccia rolls, but for a sweet sandwich. And since my wife and I have become big fans of my Sweet Fruit and Cracker Bites, I simply adapted that recipe to suit mini sandwiches. It was no surprise at all that these little sammies also proved to be delightfully tasty, and were an instant hit with both my wife and I (and about a half dozen other people for whom we have since made them). And even though this was just a slight derivation of the Sweet Fruit and Cracker Bites recipe, I am taking the liberty of adding it to my 50 in 15 Challenge since it is technically a new recipe that I hadn’t tried or made before.

Raspberry S’more Bites

Raspberry S’more Bites

Time: 5-10 min

Difficulty: Easy

The other night, my wife and I decided to do a “small plates” dinner. As part of one round of snacks, I decided to do a slight derivation of my Sweet Fruit and Cracker Bites, making little mini S’more bites. As it turns out, I didn’t have any graham crackers on hand, but Wheat Thins proved to be a very suitable alternative. And the end result was an obviously-tasty and easy-to-make treat.
